From newer alliances formed around modern-day challenges to long-standing partners with deep historical ties, these countries play a significant role in molding US foreign policy and maintaining global stability.

Israel

United by shared democratic values, Israel and the United States have a strong partnership focused on intelligence cooperation, security, and technological innovation. The alliance is paramount for handling common regional challenges.
This US ally is a Western Asian country formally known as the State of Israel. It’s bordered to the north by Lebanon, to the west by Jordan, to the east by Syria, and to the southwest by Egypt. It’s situated on the southeast shore by the Mediterranean Sea and the northern part of the Red Sea.
To the east and west are the Palestinian parts of the Gaza Strip and West Bank. While the nation’s seat is in Jerusalem, the country’s technological and economic hub is Tel Aviv. Yet, international recognition of Israeli sovereignty over East Jerusalem is highly debated.
Germany
As a key player in the European Union, this US ally is a vital partner of the United States. The alliance focuses on security, economic cooperation, and shared commitments to human rights and democracy. With King Wilhelm of Prussia as its emperor, this country was officially united in 1871 in Bismarck’s direction.
Essentially a continuance of Charlemagne’s/Karl der Grosse’s empire, the former “Holy Roman Empire” was dissolved in 1806. After World War I, a portion of land was lost, and after World War II, much more, primarily because of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi rule.
After that, the Soviets retained their zone, known as the “DDR,” or East Germany, apart from a wall going through the center of Berlin, until 1990, when the two nations were reunited.
South Korea
The South Korea-US alliance is vital for maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula and handling regional security problems. The partnership goes beyond defense, though, and includes cultural exchanges and economic collaboration.
This US ally, also known as the Republic of Korea, is an East Asian country that shares a land border with North Korea and inhabits the southern portion of the Korean Peninsula. The Sea of Japan establishes its eastern border, while the Yellow Sea forms its western border.

Frequently abbreviated as Britain or the UK, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland included, is a sovereign state on the northwest coast of Europe. This US ally is a Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy headed by King Charles, with Sir Keir Starmer serving as prime minister.
The United Kingdom is a unitary state comprising Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland. Even though it was a member of the European Union, it began withdrawing from the Union in 2016 and ultimately left on January 31st, 2020.
Japan

France

Officially known as the French Republic, this US ally is a sovereign nation with parts of Western Europe and several overseas territories and regions.
Metropolitan France, the portion of France located in Europe, stretches between the Rhine and the Atlantic Ocean and from the Mediterranean Sea all the way to the English Channel and North Sea. With 67 million people living there, France covers 675,000 and 251,000 miles.
Australia
Sharing a commitment to democratic principles and many common values, Australia and the US collaborate closely on counterterrorism efforts, security matters, and scientific research, intensifying ties in the Asia-Pacific region.
The island of Tasmania, the continent of Australia, and several other smaller islands make up the sovereign country known as Australia, or more officially, the Commonwealth of Australia. This US ally, with 2,941,300 square miles, is the 6th largest country in the world in terms of area and the biggest country in Oceania.
The flattest, oldest, driest, and least fertile continent is Australia, which has the least fertile soils. With tropical rainforests in the northeast, deserts in the center, and mountain ranges in the southeast, this diverse nation has a vast range of landscapes and weather.
